Cellobrations! A Look Back at the 18th Annual Candlelight Concert

On Sunday, March 8th, the Community Music School of the Piedmont hosted its most anticipated event of the year. The 18th Annual Candlelight Concert, held at the elegant home of Tom and Nancy Dungan, offered an evening of "Cellobrations!"—a deep dive into the expressive power of the cello.

The evening’s repertoire spanned the history of the instrument, from the foundational Suite No. 1 by Bach to the lyricism of Saint-Saëns’ The Swan. Cellist Amit Peled and pianist Martin Labazevitch captivated the audience with their virtuosity and emotional intensity.

Setting the stage for these masters were CMSP’s own Anabel and Rachel Abernathy, who performed Debussy’s Petite Suite for piano four hands—a testament to the high level of talent fostered within our school. The sisters have both received the Katherine Jameson Scholarship in previous years, providing them with a full year of piano lessons.

As our sole annual fundraiser, this concert is vital to our ability to reach over 400 children and adults through instruction and ensembles. We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended, sponsored, or placed an ad in our program. Your support ensures that music education remains accessible to all.
