Candlelight Concerts

The annual candlelight concert is the sole fundraising event of the year. This concert and the support of our patrons brings world-class music to the local community, and raises critically needed scholarship and outreach funds to preserve and expand music education in the Northern Piedmont area.

Chopin the Virtuoso

 

On Sunday, February 4th, 2024, Tom and Nancy Dungan hosted the Candlelight Concert for the third time, featuring acclaimed pianist Brian Ganz. Elysian Fields provided an elegant setting for a spectacular evening of exciting works by Chopin.

AYA Piano Trio - February 2023

CMSP's 15th annual Candlelight Concert featured the award-winning AYA Piano Trio on Sunday February 26th, 2023 at the estate of Tom and Nancy Dungan. The trio's masterful execution and emotive performances brought a delightful and diverse range of classical music to the audience.

On Sunday June 26th, 2022 Tom and Nancy Dungan generously hosted CMSP's annual Candlelight Concert, featuring Paragon Philharmonia Wind Ensemble on their estate, Elysian Fields, providing the perfect landscape for Mozart and Beethoven.

CMSP hosted our annual Candlelight Concert, featuring strings duo Ari Isaacman-Beck and Gwen Krosnick, on Sunday February 23rd, 2020 at the beautiful Ballroom of Barton Oaks.

Bass, Bach & Beyond

 

Dr. Donovan Stokes, Shenandoah University Professor and acclaimed bassist, performed music from around the world at the 12th Annual Candlelight Concert "Bass, Bach and Beyond" on Sunday February 10th at the Ballroom of Barton Oaks.

On Sunday February 18th, 2018 the Ballroom at Barton Oaks provided a magnificent setting to experience some of the lesser known works of Chopin through the skilled interpretation of acclaimed pianist Brian Ganz.

On Sunday, February 12, 2017, CMSP hosted our 10th annual Candlelight Concert Fundraiser with internationally acclaimed cellist, Amit Peled, with Noreen Cassidy-Polera, accompanist.

Our Love is Here to Stay

CMSP hosted our annual 9th annual Candlelight Concert, featuring noted soprano, Rosa Lamoreaux, and her friends. On February 28th, Rosa presented a wonderful selection of songs from the Great American Songbook with bassist Jon Nazdin and pianist, Betty Bullock.

NOW

 

On February 8 the New Orchestra of Washington (NOW) under the direction of Alejandro Hernandez-Valdez presented the stunning centerpiece to an elegant evening, enjoyed by close to 150 people. The ensemble consisted of a double string quartet with contrabass, which sounded stunningly full in the intimate setting of the ballroom at Barton Oaks.

Brilliant Bach

On Sunday February 9th, the Community Music School of the Piedmont held its annual Candlelight Concert. This time, the theme was “Brilliant Bach”.   It featured the internationally acclaimed conductor and keyboard artist Dr. J. Reilly Lewis and performers from the Washington Bach Consort.  

Time for Three

A phenomenal trio of classically trained musicians gave a stupendous performance that left the audience thoroughly delighted and asking for more. The event was the Sixth Annual Candlelight Concert, a benefit event  at The Community Music School of the Piedmont. On Sunday January 27th, Time for Three's two violinists - Zack De Pue and Nick Kendall - and one double bassist - Ranaan Meyer - played their hearts out for the local, much-impressed crowd.

The event featured the highly talented conductor and keyboard artist, J. Reilly
Lewis. “Lewis’s performance journeyed well above the timberline into the heart and soul of Bach’s genius", said The Washington Post of his playing and conducting. “It was clear from his reading of it that Lewis loves this music deeply; it was a performance so tender you never wanted it to end.”

John O'Conor

 

Internationally acclaimed pianist John O'Conor gave a spectacular performance at our Fourth Annual Candlelight Concert Fundraiser on February 20th at Barton Oaks in The Plains. Proceeds from this wonderful event will go to support our scholarship and community outreach initiatives

Hardy-Orkis Duo

The Hardy-Orkis Duo, composed of two Grammy Award-winning Principal Chair members of the National Symphony Orchestra, offered a dynamic program for the Community Music School of the Piedmont’s Third Annual Candlelight Concert at 4 pm on February
21st.

On Sunday, January 25th, 2009, CMSP bid céad míle fáilte (one hundred thousand welcomes) to internationally acclaimed Irish pianist John O’Conor and the Royal Irish Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra.

Candlelight Concert

The concert featured brilliant performances by pianist and Shenandoah University Professor Elizabeth Temple, cellist Cruz Taylor Almao, violinist Flor Maryory Serrano, and pianist Gerardo Fernandez.
