Christian Hartman

Christian Hartman is a cellist, percussionist, composer, and educator known for his energetic, passionate performances and his ability to bridge a wide variety of styles from early music to contemporary music and free improvisation. His work in the field of new music has led to the premieres of several compositions written for him, and as a composer/arranger himself, Hartman’s music has been premiered by various ensembles and dance companies. In addition, Hartman maintains an active schedule as an educator, frequently giving private lessons, masterclasses, and clinics.
Christian Hartman holds degrees in music performance from the University of Delaware (M.M.) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (B.A.), and is currently pursuing a DMA at Shenandoah Conservatory, where he serves as cellist for EDGE Ensemble and the graduate piano trio, as well as teaching assistant for the cello studio. He plays on a 1922 François Delprato cello made in Mirecourt, France.
